FlyingZERO has placed healthcare at the forefront of its service priorities. The initial operations feature drones delivering vital supplies between St. James Hospital in Zejtun and Sliema. While a car journey along this route can take 21 minutes, FlyingZERO completes the journey in a mere 7 minutes – a critical time advantage that could make the difference in emergency situations. In the near future, FlyingZERO plans to launch drone routes between Malta and Gozo, with estimated flight times of just 15 minutes at 120 km/h.
Alexander Esslinger, Director of SKY Mobility, remarked: “What we have demonstrated today is a powerful solution for those in need of rapid, dependable transport. FlyingZERO is ideal for Malta and other island nations facing road congestion challenges. With this service, we’re truly making a difference.”
Showcasing Safety, Precision, and Transparency Through Test Flights
FlyingZERO’s three-phase test flight sequence displayed the robustness of its safety and operational features:
Safety and Awareness: Initial flights tested onboard safety and awareness systems, ensuring the protection of both cargo and the public.
Operational Range: The second flight extended the aircraft's range across open sea, simulating diverse delivery conditions.
BVLOS and Urban Air Delivery: The final phase involved fully autonomous operations in Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) conditions, culminating in a precise landing at St. James Hospital in Sliema, thanks to the team’s expertise in safe urban air delivery.
FlyingZERO has released video footage from these test flights, underscoring its commitment to transparency, public safety, and privacy rights. Footage from the onboard cameras, captured for safety and insurance purposes, is available here.
Additionally, a full video documenting the hospital delivery route captured by an external videographer can be viewed here.
